Deep Ellum Shooting, Two Suspects Still on Run

The Dallas district of Deep Ellum was rocked by a shooting on Saturday night. The shooting took place in the Entertainment District of Deep Ellum. Two victims were taken to the nearby Baylor Hospital as Dallas Police began searching for suspects.

The shooting took place in Deep Ellum’s Entertainment District around 1 am. The Dallas Police Department released surveillance footage of the streets around Cafe Brazil as the shots rang out.

The surveillance footage shows an altercation between a group of revelers in the Entertainment District, resulting in shots being fired. Cell phone images from inside Cafe Brazil show patrons falling to the floor as the shots rang out on the street. Images from the network of video surveillance cameras around the Entertainment District show several people firing gunshots into the air.

Dallas Police Department released the surveillance footage early on Sunday morning to try and attract tips about the suspect’s whereabouts in the case. The video shows several people gathering around a dark truck before they scatter as the first shots ring out. Eyewitnesses state between six and ten shots were fired outside the window of Cafe Brazil.

DPD has issued an image of a suspect they wish to talk to in connection with the shootings. The police description of the suspect in the shooting was wearing a red shirt and red Nike shorts. The suspect was wearing white sneakers in the surveillance footage.

The footage the DPD is using to try and find the suspect has been produced with the help of the Deep Ellum Foundation. The group is hoping to improve the safety of the Entertainment District by installing a network of surveillance cameras throughout the region. Deep Ellum has become a safety concern for members of the Deep Ellum community and DPD. Shootings have become a regular occurrence for the community, with the Deep Ellum Foundationhoping to introduce new cameras each weekend.

The Deep Ellum Foundation has 25 cameras set up around the Entertainment District. A command center is located on Main Street to monitor the cameras across the Deep Ellum Entertainment District.

The latest shooting joins a long list in the Entertainment District, with locals reporting weekly and bi-weekly shootings in the popular district for nightlife.

Dallas Police Department used the cameras to help them identify two suspects who ran into the crowd after the shooting. The DPD has yet to announce any arrests following the Deep Ellum shooting.
