The Dallas Express previously reported the arrest warrant obtained for Dallas police officer Reginald Jones. He was accused of promoting a pyramid scheme. Jones’ attorney stated that his client did not intend to break the law as he did not know his actions were illegal.
According to his arrest warrant affidavit, Dallas PD officer Reginald Jones, 58, is accused of promoting and organizing a pyramid scheme involving multiple Dallas PD officers. The affidavit also stated that Jones received around $48,000 during the scheme, which had over 159 participants besides the officers.
Jones turned himself into the DeSoto PD around 4 p.m on Friday, Oct. 1. He also posted bail that same day. Dallas PD also made grand jury referrals for twelve other officers involved in the scheme.
In a written statement to The Dallas Morning News, Jones’ attorney, Chris Knox, said his client did not realize his actions were illegal.
“Officer Jones, like all the other officers involved in the gifting tree, certainly did not intend to break the law and had no knowledge that his actions could potentially be interpreted as being illegal,” Knox said in the statement.
Jones has been with the Dallas Police Department for almost twenty years, and his attorney described him as “an exemplary police officer.” He is assigned to the South Central Patrol Division of the Dallas PD.
According to Jones’ arrest warrant affidavit, A Dallas PD officer had reported the 58-years-old’s involvement in the scheme to the department’s public integrity unit on Sept. 30, 2020. The affidavit also stated that Jones told detectives on Mar. 15, 2021, that participants in the scheme paid into $100, $500, or $1,400 “gifting circles” through CashApp. New participants were told to bring in at least two other people that eight people would bless.
Other DPD officers involved in the scheme are Maj. David Davis, Officer Anthony Edmond, Sgt. Constance Lewis, Officer Paul Logan, Sr. Cpl. Pearl McDowell, Sgt. Latasha Moore Sgt. Rachel Moore, Officer Carlton Nelson, Sr. Cpl. Raquel Oliver, Sr. Cpl. Aaron Rucker, Lt. Giovanni Wells, and Sgt. Jennifer Wells. All of the officers are on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation. They were all assigned to the South Central Patrol Division of the Dallas PD.
Dallas PD said it also made grand jury referrals on Reserve Officer Brad Deason and civilian employee Sonja Davis. Dallas police said both individuals were also involved in the scheme.
