The Austin Street Center is holding its No Place Like Home fundraiser on April 28. This year’s event is the seventh fundraiser by the center.

For over three decades, Austin Street Center has been providing emergency housing and permanent housing solutions for people who find themselves in need of shelter. The No Place Like Home event is an initiative to create awareness to further Austin Street Center’s mission.

Organizers say that they hope that this fundraiser will help the homeless in Dallas move “from homelessness to independence.”

No Place Like Home funds a significant part of Austin Street Center’s budget for shelter, food, and programs.

According to NBC 5 News, the event’s organizers say that the pandemic and rising costs have led to an increase in homelessness.

Austin Street Center CEO Daniel Roby said the homeless population in Dallas has increased by 30%.

“We have teachers who are here,” he said. “We have PhDs who come here. We have folks who have been stockbrokers … and they find themselves in a rough situation.”

Roby explained that various people have benefited from the fundraisers over the years.

According to the No Place Like Home event page, the occasion will be a “chic garden party in the heart of downtown,” complete with cocktails, Hors d’oeuvres, and live entertainment. Reporter and anchor Shannon Murray of Fox 4 News’ Good Day will emcee.

Guests will also have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction for vacation homes, staycations, and home goods and services.

Thursday’s event will take place at Klyde Warren Park’s Muse Family Pavilion from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $60 for individuals to $25,000 for presenting sponsors.
