Amidst signs of a decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations, Dallas County Health and Human Services has reported 54 new deaths in the last two weeks. The county also reported 1,978 new cases.
As of October 1, Dallas County Health and Human Services reported an overall COVID-19 case total of 389,318. This value includes 331,214 cumulative confirmed cases (PCR test) and 58,194 probable cases (antigen test). Last week the county reported a total of 905 additional confirmed and probable cases. The updated death toll is reported at 4,675 for Dallas County residents. This is an increase of 54 total deaths recorded in the last two weeks.
In Dallas County, only 1.2% of coronavirus cases are fatal. All of the people who died from the latest count had underlying high-risk health conditions, according to officials. One of the reported deaths was a young girl who was between the ages of ten to nineteen.
According to County Judge Clay Jenkins, the number of hospitalizations is starting to decline slowly.
According to state records, 1,561,295 people in Dallas County have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine as of Friday. A note on the site stated that this recent update now includes vaccination data with new metrics for booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Officials urge residents to get a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine for residents from age sixty-five upwards, residents with high-risk work environments, and those with preexisting medical conditions.
