Though the City of Dallas as a whole saw a 1.3% decrease in crime when comparing March of last year to March of 2022, over half of its fourteen districts saw an increase in their crime scores. District 1, which saw a 12.85% increase, earned its councilman the “Crime Boss of the Month” title.
The Dallas Express, The People’s Paper, believes that important information, such as crime rates and trends in the city, should be readily available to you.
According to the FBI’s UCR database, Dallas has more crime per capita than hotspots like Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York.
The Dallas Express awards the title “Crime Boss of the Month” to the Dallas City Council member whose district had the most significant percentage increase (or the most minor decrease) in crime for the month before.
Based on March statistics, District 1 Councilman Chad West was named Crime Boss for April, the second time in 2022 he has taken the dubious honor.
District 9, led by Councilwoman Paula Blackmon, nipped right at District 1’s heels for the title with a 12.74% crime increase in March.
The Dallas Express asked Blackmon for comment on the crime increase, but no comments have since been submitted from the councilwoman’s office.
City of Dallas District 3, led by Councilman Casey Thomas II, saw a 12.5% increase in crime when comparing March 2022 to ’21. He told The Dallas Express that he spoke to the Public Safety Advisory Council about his concerns regarding the growth in crime.
“I met with our District 3 Public Safety Advisory Council last week to discuss with them community-based strategies for addressing crime and partnering with the Dallas Police Department to collaborate on effective crime reduction in their neighborhoods,” Thomas said.
The remaining City of Dallas districts to see crime score increases for March were District 2, up 3.99%, District 14, with a 2.42% increase, and District 8, with a 1.22% increase.
Meanwhile, Councilwoman Jaynie Schultz, who has been named Crime Boss twice, saw her District 11’s crime score decrease by 20.88% when comparing March 2022 to ’21.
The Dallas Express contacted Schultz’s office for comment on the decline, but no comments had been received from the councilwoman’s office as of press time.
