The Texas Governor’s Public Safety Office Texas Crime Stoppers announced on Wednesday, January 5, that the 26th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Campus Conference would be held February 7 through 9, 2022, in Beaumont, Texas.

The annual Texas Campus Crime Stoppers conference brings together student volunteers, administrators, program sponsors, and School Resource Officers (SRO) from all over Texas. The campus conference focuses on student volunteers who “work tirelessly on their middle school and high school campuses to keep their peers and communities safe,” the press release said.

Grand Prairie Police Officer Greg New told The Dallas Express that many crimes in Texas would not get by law enforcement without tips from the public.

“Crime Stoppers is important because you get the community involved in there without the community’s help because some of this stuff can’t be solved without community participation,” he said.

In 2016, Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed New to the Texas Crime Stoppers Council. He is a 30-year law enforcement veteran, has worked with Texas Crime Stoppers on a local level for the past twenty-one years, and is a certified trainer for the program. He has also contributed to the development of the training curriculum.

New said he recently spoke at a Crime Stoppers convention in South Padre, Texas, said he expects around 350 people to attend the 26th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Campus Conference. Last year’s event was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

The conference will provide presentations that will focus on current trends and issues observed on campuses, cyberbullying, drugs, and theft.

The conference will also include interactive self-defense classes, demo forensic labs, police station tours, operational guidelines for running a practical crime stoppers program on campus, state-related regulations, and requirements of Crime Stoppers Organizations in Texas.

Finally, they will also provide relevant criminal justice hot topics and the annual Texas Best Awards and Banquet.

Tickets for the conference come in three tiers, and registration can be completed here.

In Dallas County, there are four chapters of the Governors Crime Stoppers, The Coppell Crime Commission, Grand Prairie Schools Crime Stoppers, Inc., The Grand Prairie Crime Commission, and The North Texas Crime Commission.
