Classes at Lone Star High School were canceled for a second day Tuesday after social media threats raised security concerns. The post was shared across the community and urged parents to keep their children home on Monday because of threats of violence.

Frisco Police completed a sweep of the school on Monday and did not find anything that posed a threat or was suspicious. However, schools will remain closed until Wednesday to ensure everyone’s safety and investigate further details.

“It’s always a difficult decision to close a campus, but the safety and security of students and staff is Frisco ISD’s foremost concern,” said Jamie Driskill, who is the Frisco ISD Director of Communications.

Lone Star High School’s closure comes in response to threats made against the school Friday on social media. A second threat was made through an email Sunday evening.

“They’ve obviously got some good intel that they think is somewhat credible and they’re just trying to vet that information,” said Craig Miller, who is a former Chief of Police for Dallas ISD. He says that threats always increase going into a break but that each one must be explored thoroughly.

“They want to get out of finals or maybe they just want to get their Christmas break earlier,” said Miller. “Historically, in my 38 years in law enforcement, I have not seen a confirmed case where a person announced ahead of time something at a certain place at a certain time was going to take place.”

Frisco ISD Superintendent of Schools Mike Waldrip wrote a letter to the families of affected students, stating, in part, “I would like to take this opportunity to remind the community that Frisco ISD has a strong partnership with the Frisco Police Department and emergency services and that any threat is taken very seriously.”
