A North Richland Hills center for victims of domestic violence and families in need was recently burglarized.
According to police and the director of The Battered Women’s Foundation, the burglary occurred on March 15.
Executive Director Angie Wehrer said that the center is still trying to determine everything that was taken; however, the center has already recorded missing items such as clothing, tools, and food.
Wehrer said the burglars took “basically anything that was small enough” to carry. She also noted that the thief stole the extra security cameras that the center had planned to install the day after the burglary.
Authorities said that a man could be seen via surveillance footage combing the facility around 4:30 a.m.
North Richland Hills Police are still investigating the crime. However, they believe the suspect gained access to the facility through an unsecured door. They also do not believe that a second suspect was involved.
Wehrer said that it is possible that the construction crew that had been working on some parts of the facility forgot to lock a door. She also said that a storm on March 14 had previously blown open the facility’s back warehouse entrance.
The executive director said she is disappointed that someone would steal from a foundation that offers help to those in need.
“If you just needed food, if you needed clothes, you could have [come] here and knocked on our door, left a note on our door, and said, ‘Listen, this is how you get ahold of me,'” she expressed.
